[per press association.] Store Burnt Down. New Plymouth, To-day. Gilmour’a store, at Waitara, was burnt down last night. The store was insured in the Union office for L2OO, and the stock for L7soin the Northern office, and LSOO in the Victorian office. The cause of the fire is unknown. The fire was first discovered at one o’clock this morning, by a man connected with the railway, who gave the alarm, but too late for the building to be saved. It was detached, and the fire burnt itself out. Death of a Sailor. Wanganui, To-day. A man named David Hannah, a seaman on board the T. B. Taylor, was drowned in the Wanganui river yesterday afternoon. The vessel was lying at the Heads, and Hannah and another man, named Robinson, obtained permission from the captain to come to town. When they got half a mile away they were tacking, and the boat capsized. Hannah swam for the shore, but got cramped and sank. The pilot went out, and found Robinson hanging on to the boat, and picked him up. Hannah was some time on the boats Stella and To Anau, and has friends in Christchurch.
