[PER PRESS ASSOCIATION.] Death Through Fright. Auckland, To-day. A young woman named Waring died of fright on Wednesday. On Monday she was nearly run over by a cart and took a succession of fits, which terminated fatally. She was only eight months married. Suez Canal RisksThe South British Insurance Company have been advised that on the 18t,h inst. the London rate for Suez Canal risk was 2s 6d. Drowned. A seaman of the cutter Triad fell overboard in the harbor to-day and was drowned. He leaves a wife and three children. Disappeared in the Swamp. Te Aroha, To-day. A swamper, named George Harrison, working in Lovett’s swamp contract at Waitoa, has been missing since Monday. Ho left the Waitoa Hotel in the afternoon with a mate, who returned in the evening stating that he had missed Harrison and could not find him. The police constable stationed here went in search yesterday on hearing the circumstances, but could learn nothing. The man is supposed to be lost in the swamp. An Expert’s Opinion. Leigh, a Victorian mining expert, who has been here some days, has taken up several lease areas for Victorian capitalists, so groat is his opinion of mining ground here. Another Vessel Ashore. Wellington, To-day. Information has been received by the Customs Department, from the officer in charge of customs at Foxton, that the ketch Elizabeth, with seventeen tons of coal and coke, from Wellington to Foxton, wont ashore at 3 a. m. to-day, about seven miles south of the entrance to the Manawatu river. All hands are saved, and the vessel is not damaged. The captain expects to be able to relaunch after discharging cargo. Earthquake. Kumara, To-day. A sharp shock of earthquake was experienced he.re about 345 this morning, lasting a few seconds. The Oamaru Murder. Oamaku, To-day. The charge of murder against Alex. Beattie is still proceeding. The evidence given to day is a repetition of that given at the Coroner’s inquest. Evidence was given which went to account for the blood found on the prisoner’s coat, and that it was not there on 12th June. The s s. Wairarapa. Dunedin, To-day. The Union Company have received cable advice of the sailing of the new steamer Wairarapa from the Clyde, on July 18th, with seventy-two passengers. She is expected to arrive in Melbourne on the Ist of September. Death of Captain Kitchener. Captain Kitchener died shortly after 10 o’clock this morning. Friendless and Homeless. At the City Court the police brought up a young woman with three children, all of whom were destitute. It transpired they had been in the colony seven months, having been sent for by their friends, but who were now no longer able to keep them. The Bench committed the children to the Industrial School.
