The Victonan Government have decided to engage a Lieut.-Coloncl and Captain of the Imperial Artillery and a Captain of Infantry for command of the Victorian forces. Coursing. The coursing for the Waterloo Cup, which was commenced yesterday, was continued to-day. The following four remain in for the final courses :—Maid of Osborne, Merribee Shadow, Copri, and Girofla. Bobbery. Melbourne, To-day. The men who were recently arrested in connection with the Avinski jewellery robbery have been committed for trial. Not Enthusiastic. Sydney, Yesterday. The Municipal Council has been asked, but has declined to take part in the demonstration which has been organised to welcome Sir H. Parkes on his return from Europe. Sailed. Sailed, to-day, s.s. Ringarooma, for A uckland. The Budget. Hobart, Yesterday. The Hon. William Giblin, Colonial Treasurer, made his Financial Statement in the House of Assembly today. He estimates the revenue for the ensuing year at 1.516,000, and the expenditure at 1.482,500. The surplus thus shown will be applied to the redaction of the duty on tea by 2d per lb, and on sugar by 40s per ton, the removal of the duties on cattle, etc, and the relief of the property tax. The total proposed remissions amount to L45> 2 53- The Treasurer announced that the Government intended to borrow L 350,000 for public works.
