[pkh kbutkr’s AOKNCV. 1 A Bad Look Out for the Mails. London, July 16. The Sorata sailed to-day for Australia. The commander protested against receiving the mails without notice. He declared he had no accommodation for them, the ship being already full. The mails, therefore, remain on deck, covered with tarpaulin. The Maori Deputation. London, July 17. The Maori deputation, bearing a petition addressed to the Queen, were to-day granted an interview by Earl Kimberley, and were introduced to his Lordship by the Right Rev. A. B. Sutter, Bishop of Nelson. Sydney Taiwhanga and Hori Mangihaka explained at length the grievances of the natives of New Zealand, and presented their petition. The Secretary of State for the Colonies stated, in reply, that he could only transmit the memorial to the Government of New Zealand, and request the opinion of the Colonial Executive as to the allegations made by the petitioners. Cold Meat. A portion of the cargo of frozen mutton ex steamship Orient, was sold b}' auction to-day, and realised an average of per lb. Peaceful John. In the House of Commons to-day the Right Hon. John Bright explained that he disagreed with his former colleagues on the Government benches solely with regard to the policy they had decided upon pursuing in connection with the Egyptian question.
