Auckland, To-day, The criminal calendar for the next sitting of the Supreme Court includes two persons charged with attempted murder ; one felonious wounding; one stabbing ; one rape ; one sodomy ; five breaking and entering ; two stealing from a dwelling ; one native for forgery and uttering ; one illegally on premises. A Succesful Concert. A concert at the Newton Catholic Church realised Ll2d. A Proposal. A special meeting of tlie City Council yesternight recommended the Government, in the event of the suburbs joining the city, to form them into throe wards, viz.;—No. 1, Ponsonby and Newton ; No. 2, Grafton, Eden Terrace, Karangahapa, and Archhiil ; No. 3, Parnell, Newmarket, and the Domain. It also recommended the abolition of the Domain Board, and that the Domain be placed under the Council’s control. Should these suburbs come in the population of the city it will number nearly forty thousand. Assault. Wanganui, To-day. James Redmond and Alexander Doug-
las Boyd, charged with assaulting Captain Pope, on board the steamer Tui, on Sunday last, wore brought before the li.M. to-day, and Boyd was sentenced to a fortnight’s imprisonment, and Redmond was discharged. Found Drowned; Christchurch, To-day.
The body of a woman, about 40 years of age, was found this morning floating in the Avon. It is not yet identified. Increase of Capital. A general meeting of the New Zealand Shipping Company this morning unanimously confirmed the resolution re increase of capital. Something Wrong. Balclutha. To-day. A petition to Parliament is being signed by the sufferers of the Kaitangata disaster, praying for an enquiry into the administration of the relief fund.
