[VKK PRESS ASSOCIATION.] A Young Scamp. Wanganui, To-day. A painful case came before the Resident Magistrate to-day. A boy named Connell, eleven years of age, was charged with breaking into the house of a Mrs Mullins, who is at present away in Wellington, and stealing ten pounds. Connell is brother to the boy who was recently committed to the Nelson Orphanage, and caused so much trouble by running away. Accused was remanded for evidence. Sinking of the s-s Westport. Wellington, To-day. Captain Williams has received the following telegram from Captain Gibb, of Kekerangu :—“ Westport has sunk off Flaxbourne. The crew landed in boats and are now proceeding to Blenheim.” No further particulars are yet to hand. The insurances on the vessel are as folio.vs ;—Colonial, L 3,000; re-insured for L 2.500 in Australian offices. South British, LI 500 ; re-insured for L 2.000 in Australian offices. Victoria, L 2,500 ; reinsured as follows—Batavia, L 750; Union, LSOO ; United, LSOO. An Accident through. Drink. Dunedin, To-day. Macdonald, a shepherd in the employ of Boyd Brothers, at Hillend, fell from his horse to-day while intoxicated, and was dragged in the stirrup for some distance. When found he was unconscious, aud still remains so.
