FRANKLYN NORTH ELECTION.

[by telegraph.] Auckland, To-day. The election for the above district took place yesterday, and resulted in the return of the Opposition candidate. There is one return yet to come, but it cannot alter the result. The numbers at present are— Harris ... ... ... ... 525 Backhand 476 Majority for Harris ... 49 It will thus be seen that 1,001 votes save been recorded so far as is yet known. &t the general election in December last there were 1,434 names on the roll, and 306 votes were recorded, Mr Harris being returned over Mr Buckland by the exceedingly narrow majority of two votes, the numbers being 323 and 321. There were two other candidates on the occasion of the previous contest, namely, Messrs Lake and Gordon, who polled 154 and 8 respectively
