In the House of Commons to-day, Mr Gladstone, in reply to a question, confirmed the statement which lias been current that it bad been suggested by the French Government that a conference of European Powers should be held for the settlement of the present Egyptian crisis. The Premier further stated that the Sultan was sending an Imperial Commission to Egypt on board the Turkish ironclads which are about to leave for Alexandria. Money and the MarketsConsols, ex div. New Zealand securities are unchanged. The total revenue in the Bank of England
in notes and bullion is Li 2,500,000, being LBoo,ooo less than the reserve of last week. The Bank rate of discount remains at 3 per cent., and the market at 2}i. The Wool Sales
At the wool sales to-day, prices were again firmly maintained. 10,900 bales were offered since the opening of the present series; 57,000 bales have been withdrawn. The Australian Cricketers.
I'he Australian cricketers commenced their sixth match to-day at Manchester against Eleven of the County of Lancashire. The visitors went first to the wickets, and were all disposed of for a total of 259 r uns . Murdoch batted splendidly, and never gave a chance until he was caught for 68. Massie was bowled for 47; Bannerman, 1b w, 39 ; Blackham bowled, 22. The Home team then went in for their first innings, and at the conclusion of the day’s play had lost two wickets for 54. The weather during the day was fine, and the attendance at the match enormous.

France’s Intentions Respecting Egypt. Paris, June 1.
In the Chamber of Deputies to day, M. Le Freycinet disclaimed the report that France waa about to institute military action in Egypt, and added that the French Ministry considered that united action on the part of the European Powers was necessary in order to guarantee the peaceful settlement of the Egyptian difficulty.
The Bordeaux Wine Exhibition. The opening of the International Wine Exhibition at Bordeaux has been postponed for a fortnight.
