To the Editor. g IK} —The public of Oantcrhmy owe you a debt of gratitude for bringing under their ndtice the hieroglyphics on the end of my shed, store, or whare. They hare been troubling the savonfs for some time, and they are not decided whether the mystic characters are Assyrian, Persian, or Chinese. The problem will probably be referred to Professor Smith of the British Museum; but as there is o probability (in these days of short-sighted reform) ol everything ancient being swept away, v, behaves the people of Ashburton to a great struggle to preserve the last relics of antiquity.—l am, etc., J.C.
