MR IVESS AND THE “WORKING MAN.”

To the Editor.

Sib, —I see from recent copies of jour journal that the Kumara Times has had . something to say about Mr Ivess and the reduction by him of the rate of compositora’ wages, and also his employment of boy-labor, and I have also noticed that Mr;lvess has given a point-blank denial to the charges in question. Now, sir, with your permission, I should like to ask Mr Ivess a few questions, to which I in- ■ vite a reply from that gentleman. la it ' or is it not a fact that up to about the ; time of the last general election, when Mr Ivess was a candidate in the “ working man’s” interest, Mr Ivess’s paper, the Ashburton Maii, was got out by a mixed lot of boys and men—the former numerically preponderating ? And is it or is it not a fact that the most profitable portion of tbo “ copy” was given to the boys, while tho men wore setting the least payable portion, or even walking about : doing nothing 1 Is it or is it not a fact that the man who was tho prime mover in getting this state of things altered was • discharged as soon as the election was over? These, sir, are plain questions, to which I shall be glad if Mr Ivess will give me equally plain answers.—l am, etc., Compositor. Dunedin, May 23.
