At the Magistrate’s Court this morning Thos. Coffee was committed for trial for forging a cheque for L 42. The Recent Burglaries. The men suspected of the recent burglaries wore again brought up and remanded till June X4th, when the oases
will be positively gone into. It is understood the police have a clear case against them. More Embezzlement. At the Magistrate’s Court to-day, Frank Henry Williams, formerly clerk in the Railway Department, was committed for trial on three charges of embezzling Government funds to the total amount of L 143. Diptheria. The St. Alban’s district school has been closed till further notice, owing to a serious outbreak of diptheria. Fire. Dunedin, To-day. A seven-roomed house at Cromwell, belonging to Mr Purcell, has been burnt down. It was insured in the South British for L2OO.
