Telegrams are to hand from Newcastle reporting that fully one hundred yards of Ingall street have subsided owing to the fall of a coal pit underneath. No loss of life has occurred, nor has any serious damage been done; but as other streets in the town are completely undermined their position is considered dangerous. The Suez Mails. Melbourne, To-day. Arrived —P. and O. Company’s steamship Peshawar, with the English mails via Suez, dated London, 21st April. Alarming. The Age, in an article to-day, draws attention to the serious danger which threatens Melbourne in consequence of the quantities of detonating explosives which are stored at various places in the city. Sugar for New Zealand. Mauritius advices to the idth'May report that the engagements of sugar for New Zealand consists of 175 tons for Port Chalmers, and 200 tons for Lyttelton.
