[PKK PRESS ASSOCIATION.] Explosion of a Kerosene Lamp. New Plymouth, To-day.
A kerosene lamp burst in the sitting room of Sergeant Major GoodaU’s house last night, setting fire to the room. The flames were subdued before they got a fair hold on the house. The furniture, etc., was damaged to the extent of L9O. The paper and ceiling of the room was burnt. Both were insured in the South British office.
The Persecuted Jews in Russia. Wellington, To-day.
An influential meeting was held at the Synagogue Chambers yesterday, to express its sympathy with the continued distress and persecution suffered by the Jews in Southern Russia. A subscription list was opened, and L 55 subscribed in the room.
The Bible Wanted.
Dunedin, To-day,
The Bible-in-Schools Association have adopted a petition to the General Assembly, praying for the introduction of the Bible in State schools. Crushed.
At the Seacliff Asylum works on Saturday, Nicholas Ooughan, one of the workmen, went to set a stone. He saw the machine was in notion, and in turning, the fly-wheel stood directly beneath the gate containing the saw. He touched the wheel, when the gate descended on him, causing injuries from which he died in the Hospital on Saturday afternoon.
