Consols have declined % to New Zealand securities remain at the following quotations : Five per Cent. 10-40 Loan 100% ; Five per Cent. 1889 Loan 104; Five Per Cent. 1879-1904 Loan Colonial breadstuff's are unchanged. Adelaide flour, ex store 41s; Adelaide wheat, ex store, 555; New Zealand ditto, 525. Australian tallow—best mutton has advanced to 48s per cwt. ; best beef, 43s per cwt. That Treaty Again. The Times to-day states that M. Gambetta and Viscount Lyons, the British Ambassador at Paris, are now conferring on the subject of the negotiations for the renewal of the AngloFrench commercial treaty, and that there are hopeful signs that an understanding may yet be arrived at between the two countries. Land CommissionLondon, Jan. 18. The Irish Land Commission is now deciding upon appeals by landlords against decisions of Land Courts. So far the findings of the Chief Commissioner have confirmed the reductions made in rents. Mr Vernon has, however, dissented fron the opinions of his colleagues. Peace. Intelligence is to hand that a treaty of peace between Chili and Bolivia, the ally of Peru in the late war, has been concluded. Guiteau's Trial—A Poor Excuse. Washington, Jan. 18. The trial of Guiteau is still proceeding. Scoville, counsel for the defence continues his speech on behalf of the prisoner. He ascribes the latter's crime to an outcome of political rancour, and asserts that General Grant, Mr Conkling, and President Arthur are morally answerable for the deed. "Let Brotherly Love Continue." Tunis, Jan. 17. Sidi Ali, heir presumptive to the Throne, has been arrested here for conspiracy to overthrow his brother, Mahomed El Sadox, Bey of Tunis.
