THE WESLEYAN CONFERENCE.

[by ’telegraph.] [prom OUR OiVN CORRESPONDENT.] Christchurch, To-day. The Wesleyan Conference commenced last evening, in the Durham street church, with j an open session. The Rev. \|7. Lee, President, occupied the chair, and the following ministers were present:—Revs. T. Buddie, J. Aldrcd, W. Kirk, Alexander Reid, John Crurjip, W. J. Watkin, W, Cannell, W. Moijley, J. A. Taylor, J. S. Rishworth, J. Berry, D. McNicoll, J. S. Smalley, W.f H. Beck, W. Keall, J. H. Simmomfls, F. W. Isitt, J. J. Lewis, W. J. Williams, I’. G. Carr, H. R. Dewsbury, W. B. Marten, F. C. Dewsbury, P. ’V. Fairclough, C. H. Standage, W. Blumber, S. J. Garlick, J. A. Luxford, T. Fee, S. Lawry, J. N. Buttle, J. H. Gray, W. L. Salter, W. Tinsley, E. Best T. G, Brooke, W. E. Gillam. The body of the church was well filled with the congregation. The ballot gave fourteen votes to the Rev. J, A. Taylor amjl ten to the Rev. T. Buddie for the iPresidency, the former being therefore Elected. The Rev. W. Morley was elxted Secretary by a large majority. The Secretary nominated the P ev. W. J. Williams Assistant-Secretary, the Rev. T. G. Carr Journal Secretary, and the Rev. W. Cannell Cc responding Secretary. The Rev. W. Cannell was appointed Precentor, the Revs. Dewsbury and Simmonds repor.ers for the newspapers, and the Rev. J. Berry reporter for the New Zealand V/esleyan. The retiring President noted the many things the church had to • be thankful for, and counselled patience and loyalty to the church as the surest way to independence and control of their own affairs. The President’s address was very brief, expressing gratitude for the honor conferred upon him. The Secretary referred to the kindness of the Australian General Conference regarding New Zealand affairs, jthe need of preparing for the entire fcharge of the South Pacific missions, and of at once raising |

a loan fund for building churches. A resolution of sympathy with the families bereaved by the wreck of the Tararua was also passed. The first draft of stations gives the following new appointments ;—Pitt street (Auckland), Reid; Thames, Bull; VVaiuku, Salter; Waikato, Carr; Raglan, Caughey ; Kawakawa, Brook ; Whangarei, Dellow; Gisborne, Hudson ; New Plymouth, Kirk; Palmerston, Parsonson; Wellington, Bavin and Baumber; Greytown, Dukes; Masterton, Wills ; Blenheim, M'Nicol; Greymouth, Griffin; Durham street, Best and Tinsley ; Springston, Thomas; St. Albans, Morley; Ashburton, Standage ; Dunedin, Smalley; Port Chalmers, Smith; Milton, Gillam. The morning was occupied with considerations of ministerial character. The sessions are being held in the Provincial Council Hall.
