SOUTH RAKAIA ROAD DISTRICT.
The regular Road Board meeting was held Wednesday last at the. Board’s office. Present—Messrs Maokie, Holmes, and White.—Moved by Mr Holmes, , and seconded by Mr White —‘ ‘ That Mr Mackie be appointed Chairman for the ensuing year. ” Mr Holmes remarked, in making this proposition, that he considered, rthey would be placing the right man in.' the right place, for the efficient manner in which Mr Mackie had discharged' his duties of the previous year was a- guarantee that the interests of the Board and the ratepayers generally would receive> the utmost attention at his hands. Gamed. —Mr Mackie, in responding, thanked them for the honor conferred on him, and stated that he should always endeavor to do his best, with the assistance of the Board, to further the interests of the ratepayers, and he trusted the harmony that had existed with the members of the Board would continue.—lt was carried—- * ‘ That the Board’s solicitor and the OLaw Officers of the Crown’s advice be taken as to the legality of Mr W. L. Allen's seat on the Board, he not being a ratepayer, but simply being Manager of the Australian and Hew Zealand Land Company.” Carried.—The Clerk’s report was read and considered.—lt was resolved to call for tenders for the local crossing on Baxter’s road; and also for the maintainence of all the main roads in February next. Tenders to be in in time to be considered at the next meeting of Board. —A petition was received from several ratepayers, asking that a road be formed from Bushy Park to Chertsey road. The Clerk was instructed to call for tenders for the work, and to accept same.—A letter was read from Mr A. Makeig, Returning Officer, informing the Board that at the election Messrs Holmes and White were duly elected members of the Board.—Mr Oxley wrote, asking to have part of the Railway Terrace east formed. It was resolved to have part of the present road formed to Thompson’s track.—Mr Oliver, District Auditor, wrote, stating that he would audit the Board’s accounts on the 16th, and enclosing forms for the Clerk to fill. Clerk ordered to fill up same.—Accounts to the extent of L 24 10s 8d were passed for payment, and the Board adjourned.
