MOUNT HUTT ROAD BOARD.

The Mount Hutt Road Board met on Thursday last, the members present being Messrs M'Millan, Alington and Jackson. Mr Jackson was re-elected Chairman for the ensuing year. A letter was read from the returning officer, informing the Board that Mr D. Cameron (Clunes) and Mr J. A. Pannett had been elected members of the Board. Mr. D. Cameron wrote, apologising for unavoidable absence from the first meeting. Messrs Davies and Winter wrote, offering some heavy planking they had for sale. The Board decided not to purchase, not requiring that jlass of timber.—From Mr O. S. Mackie, applying for the use, and also permission to remove the culverts that had /been placed at gateways on his property by the South Eakaia Road Board some time ago, they being of no use in their present position. Permission granted.—Mr W. H. Barns wrote, applying to the Board for an extra payment for cleaning the Cutting leading to the Forge Bridge. The Board decided to allow Mr Barns L 8 for his extra work.—From Messrs Gould and Cameron, in reply to a letter sent them by the Overseer, calling their attention to a crossing being required over their water-race oh one of the roads, and expressing their willingness to attend to the matter immediately.—lt was resolved that each member eiqploy labor to cut the thistles in their separate wards.—The Overseer recommended that a portion of the road leading to the bridge over the north branch of the Ashburton be re-formed to the full width. It was decided not to go on with the work until after harvest. —It was resolved to redeposit L 2,500 with the Bank of New Zealand for six months.—The Chairman stated that Mr Flockton had sent in his resignation as valuer for the district,, and that arrangements had been made with Mr T. A. Winter to value the district and compile the roll. The Chairman’s action was approved of, A committee was formed of the following member^: — Messrs Alington, McMillan, and Pannett, to report at the next meeting the area of land damaged by the storm Water in the Mount Hutt district.—After passing accounts to the amount of Ll3O 12s Id, the Board adjourned till Feb. 9.
