The English players commenced a three days match against the Dunedin eighteen to-day. There was a strong northerly wind blowing. Spring won the toss, and sent Dunedin ini Peate and Midwinter opened the bowling. The fielding was not particularly bright. At 1.30, two wickets were down for 30, Vernon being bowled for 13, and Crawshaw smartly taken at the wickets for 9. Later. Harris made 11, including a fine hit
for 4 from Midwinter; he was bowled by Peate, who is in fine form, his analysis showing—lß overs, 15 maidens, 3 wickets, 11 rtlns. At the luncheon adjournment the score stood al 42 for three wicke.ts.
