BEATING A MOTHER TO DEATH.

Henry John Nye, 31, laborer, was indicted for the manslaughter of Mar-* tha Nye, his mother. The deceased was a widow, 57 years of age, and lived with her daughter and the prisoner at ■„ 19 Graham street, St Luke’s. On Sept, 1 x the prisoner went home, and, it being evident he had been drinking, some angry words were exchanged. The prisoner struck his mother several savage blows upon the head and arms, injuring her severely. His sister, upon, interfering, was also attacked by the prisoner. On one or two subsequent occasions the prisoner struck his mother, saying that she had had her time, and that he ought now to have his. The woman’s life was insured, and she had a little money in the bank. The old lady died on Sept. 25 from the injuries she received. —Prisoner denied that his mother died from any act of his, and declared that her death was the result of heart disease and rheumatism. -The jury returned a verdict of guilty. Sentence was postponed. Home paper.
