WEST CANTERBURY ASSOCIATION v. ASHBURTON.
Tho above match was played today on the Domain ground, the visiting team arriving by the express train. Ashburton won tho toss and put their opponents in first. A very strong nor’west wind was blowing during the afternoon, and made it anything but pleasant to play, consequently the fielding was very faulty. T. Feary and Rutherford were the first to face tho bowling of Fooks and Farquhar. The former very soon put together 18 runs and the latter 12 in very grand stylo. The play on both sides was very good, and considering the weather very good scores were made. At 3.45, when our reporter left the ground, the first innings had just concluded. The folowing are tho scores : West Canterbury—lst innings. T. Feary, c Farquhar b Fooks ... 18 G. Rutherford, c Farquhar b Fooks . 12 T. H. Anson, run out 9 H. Feary, b Fooks 2 S.
