[per press association.] The Auckland Jack Sheppard. Auckland, To-day. Frederick Plummer, notorious in consequence of the daring burglaries committed by him years ago, in Auckland and Dunedin, was arrested to-day under the Yagrant Act. The police suspect him of the recent burglaries here. Vote of Confidence* Pukbkohb, To-day. Mr Hamlin addressed a large meeting of Franlin electors. A vote of confidence was carried by a large majority. A Thrashing Operation. Gisborne, To-day. John Gannon, brother of a candidate for the East Coast, horsewhipped Mr Mac Kay, editor of the Poverty Bay Herald, this morning, in Gladstone road, for publishing a statement that the name of Gannon could not be found on any baptismal or marriage register.

One Dissentient. New Plymouth, To-day. Mr Kelly addressed the electors last evening. There was a large meeting, Mr Samuel being in the chair. Mr Kelly reviewed the work of the past session, and declared himself for free and purely secular education. He said it was creditable to the Government to ask Mr Bryce to again take the portfolio of Native Minister. He spoke most eulogistically of the volunteers, and said the House should not grumble at granting subsidies when their value had been thoroughly evinced during the late native crisis. He said he was iu favor of granting bonuses for local industries, and concluded by shewing that in the past he had assisted in getting public works carried on in the district, and the country opened up. A vote of confidence was carried, only one hand being held up against it. Three Starters. Wellington, To-day. Three candidates—William Hutchison, Andrew Young, and Geo. Fisher—were nominated for the Mayoralty. A Ministerial Supporter. Blenheim, To-day.

Mr Seymour addressed the electors last night, and received a vote of thanks. He announced his continued support of the present Ministry.
