ASHBURTON SCHOOL COMMITTER.

The ordinary monthly meeting of thO above took place on Tuesday evening. Present; Messrs St. Hill, (chairman) ■ Hodder, Orr, Robinson,’Andrews, Fnlton, and J. Ward (Secretary;) COREESPONDtiNCE ’ ' was read from The Longbeach School Committee, enclosing copy of the following resolution ; —“ That the ::Ghairman write to the several School Committees in Canterbury, drawing their attention to the inadequate provisions forthe necessary incidental expenses of the schools in country districts, asking their Co-operation in bringing the subject before the Board of Education.” The Committee after dsscussion, came to the conclusion that the Ashburton School did not come within the category of country schools, and the secretary was instructed to write to Mr Grigg to tfaat effect. , 1 ■ i From the Board of Edncation sanctioning . the appointment of Miss'Seager .as infant mistress, subject to her passing the necessary examination in December next. , • master’s -report. ; This report was' read as follows ‘‘ 1. On Wednesday and Thurday, the 26th and 27th ulh,-the- schopl waa visited and examined by Inspector Edge. . His report will probably be placed before you soon. 2. The attendance;, has/ decreased very much during the past few days,, owing to the prevalence of measles. The attendance to-day is upwards of 100 less than the ' usual ordinary attendance. To-day’s attend- • ance is t-pßoys, 112 : girls, 1011 total, 213. Highest attendance last week, 324 3. Infant School attendance. —Number on the roll—Boys 100; girls. 80 ; total 180- To-day’s attendance —Boys, 38 ;; girls, 18 ; total, 56.” ; The.Secretaiy was instructed io write to Mr Stott requesting him, in the future, to submit seperate reports re infants’ and . public schools. .. ‘ MISCELLANEOUS. The chairman was requested to see that the gymnasium was put in proper order, i Messrs Felton and Orr were appointed visitors for the month ensuing.
