To the Editor. Sir,— There cannot be a more infallible. proof of a failing cause that the resort by its supporters., to expedients that , are reprobated by every one not wholly destitute of' all moral sense: Therefore all lovers of true progress will hail with satisfaction the recent attacks that have been made on Mr Ivess _by his opponents as evident signs of their weakness, although at the same time lamenting that any politicians should be so mean and base as to resort to such disreputable artifices. It is needless to say that I allude to certain attacks being made at the present time, by certain parties in the interest of the landocracy, to make political capital out of Mr Ivess'religious views. The old question of Protestant and Catholic that has been the fruitful source of such endless feuds tmd misery as wo have witnessed from ■ time to time at Home is now endeavored to be revived in all its old intensity.
