PRIVATE PRIZES.

Sib, —In your report of ; the late Agricultural Show, no mention, or in fact is the slightest reference made, of the many handsome and valuable prizes given by the merchants and tradesmen of Ashburton, and other gentlemen outside. ■; I think it is to the credit of the town and the several donors, that such a list of private.,prizes as appears in opening pages, of the catamgufl, should be, given, and T also think this about as little as yourr readers could reasonably expect of their local paper thattbe-givers, and receivers of those prizes should receive a place in the general report of the show. I think also, that a great mistake is made in not presenting a proper prize list" as in several cases many prize exhibits are entirely overlooked- in your report. I. am well aware that you are placed at a disadvantage, from want of time, but the prize list could always appear in the following issue along with the report of the dinner. Perhaps these matters will receive your better attention when another year has comeroand. —I am, &c., G. Giimoue.

[We regret that the private prize winners and prize lists were not published in these columns for many reasons, but we can assure Mr Gilmour that on this occasion it was a pure oversight that the former were not mentioned, and owing to a rush of other matter on the following day the publication of the latter was again crowded out, in type, and was, thus'rendered too late to he of; interest to many of our readers.
