A DISCLAIMER.

To the Editor.

Sir, —Having been informed that Mr Ivess and others impute to me the authorship of a letter appearing in your issue of Saturday last, reflecting on Mr St. Hill’s action as an Orangeman in connection with the Wakanui election, I beg to emphatically deny that I am either the author or in any way connected with the same. 1 am astonished at Mr Ivess endeavoring to connect me with it, since he made it a special point to personally see me some days ago, and ascertain my views of mixing up religious questions with politics, which I plainly told him I never should do either myself or in any way countenance. Further, lam inclined to think Mr Ivess must have a desire to still fix the authorship on me, since he has declined to insert the disclaimer in his paper. lam extremely sorry that the religious question has been allowed to crop up, as it can really do no good ; and though lam far from being a supporter of Mr Ivess, still I think the electors as a body have perception enough to see who is the best man, without trenchi ig on the religious question.—l am, &c., S. E. Poyntz.
