At a meeting of shareholders in the Coffee Palace Company, it was decided to purchase a site on the Harbor reclamation, opposite the Waitemata Hotel. Prosuecting for CoalApplications’from prospectors to prosspect fop coal in Taravua and Coromandel were granted by the Waste Lands Board. Meeting of Licensed Victuallers. A meeting of Licensed Victuallers re the Licensing Bill was held to-day. It is understood that a delegate was appointed,

but the treasurer declined to sign a cheque on account of the expenses till the affairsof the society are placed on a proper basis. The Quarantine Station. Dr. Philaon inspected the quarantine station to-day. All those in quarantine are in good health, and ample supplies of fresh provisions have been furnished by the Mail Company’s agent. A Race. Nelson, Yesterday. ( A match between Mr J. Bolton’s Halfcaste and Mr B. Blower’s Septimus was ' run at Waka to-day for LIOO a-side. The , distance was two miles, and the weights ' the same as at the .last meeting. A great deal of interest was taken in the event. Septimus won by half a head. Besides the stakes LI,OOO changed hands on the event. A Nasty Accident. Wellington, To-day, A butcher named Hendel met with a serious accident this morning. He was driving round a corner, when a sudden i jerk threw him off his seat, the wheel passing over his head and crushing a portion of Ins skull. Hondell is in a critical condition. The Unemployed. Du no din. Yesterday. A number of unemployed waited on the Government Engineer io-clay seeking employment. They represented that 200 men were in Dunedin willing to work, but unable to get it. The Clarendon Estate. Mr Henry Driver has bought the Clarendon Estate, Wadiola, from Mr Clark, of Victoria, paying LlO per acre, or a total of L 20,000. .... Committed for Trial. Anderson and Hughes were committed for trial for the robbery of jewellery at Christchurch. New Zealand Agricultural Company. The Now Zealand Agricultural Company, during the past sis months, have sold over 12.000 acres, at an average of nverLlO per acre, and 123 town sections, at an average of over L 36 each. Fire. Dunedin, To-day. A five-roomed house in Queen street, owned by Mr John Barnes, and occupied by Mrs Humphries, was destroyed by tire yesterday. The stock was insured 'in the Transatlantic for L 250, and the furniture and effects in the same office for L3OO. Insolvents. Six insolvencies have been filed this week, including John Edward Harris, solicitor, with liabilities LS7S, and assets L 1,527; Louis Bollande, contractor, liabilities L 1,016, assets Ll 5.
