EXTENSIVE ROBBERY.

Arrest and Subsequent Escape of the Suspected Person. On Tuesday evening a most daring robbery occurred at Winchester. The particulars to hand, are, that a man named James M'Manus, abstracted a cash-box, containing money and other valuable securities, to the extent of L3OO, from the Winchester Hotel. The robbery took place about eight o’clock, and accused was arrested shortly after. Yesterday he was brought before R. Fish, Esq., J.P., at the Geraldine Resident Magistrate’s Court, and remanded till Tuesday next. He was left in one of the cells, and after tea was discovered to have effected his escape. It is presumed that whilst Constable Thoreau was having tea, some person withdrew the bolts of the cell door, thereby permitting M'Manus to escape. He had not been re-arrested up to time of receipt of the above particulars.
