ASHBURTON SCHOOL COMMITTEE.

A special meeting was held last evening, there being in attendance—Dr. Stewart (Chairman), and Messrs St. Hill, Felton, Hoclder, Robinson, and Andrews. RESIGNATION OF THE CHAIRMAN. The Chairman stated that the meeting had been called for the purpose of enabling him to formally tender his resignation as Chairman, rendered necissary by his projected removal from the district. He had held that position for three years, and felt that ho could not sever his connection with his fellow laborers, without expressing the deep feeling of regret he experienced thereat. He thanked the members of the Committee for the kind , feeling and assistance always observed towards him, and especially wished to remark the courteous and amiable feeling which had always existed between himself and the Secretary. That gentleman had always been ready to help forward the best interests of the school, and his gentlemanly bearing had won his (Dr. Stewart’s) esteem. He then tendered his resignation. It was moved by Mr St. Hill, and seconded by Mr Robinson—“ That the resignation of Dr. Stewart, as Chairman, be accepted.” It was further resolved—- “ That Dr Stewart continue to occupy the chair on this occasion. ” The whole of the members of the Committee expressed the deep regret they felt at losing the assistance of Dr. Stewart, ■ who during the time ho had been connected with the same, had always worked for the best interests of the school NEW CHAIRMAN. It was moved by Dr. Stewart, and seconded by Mr Robinson —“ That Mr St. Hill be elected Chairman for the unexpired term of the Committee.” This was carried unanimously. Mr St. Hill briefly returned thanks for the honor conferred on him.

This terminated the business, and the meeting adjourned.
