The election of a member for North Melbourne in the Legislative Assembly, in room of the late Mr Story, took place to-day, and resulted in the return of Mr Munro. Shipping. Arrived—Te Anau, from the Bluff. One Thousand Sovereigns Missing. To-day. A bag containing rooo sovereigns is missing from the Commercial Bank of Australia. The affair is involved in mystery, but the evidence, so far, would indicate that the money has been stolen.

New Ireland Immigrants. Sydney, April 8, Three hundred of the Marquis de Ray’s New Ireland immigrants arrived here from New Caledonia to-day. Return of Laycock. E. Laycock, the oarsman, arrived here to-day, per Lusitania, from England, and was accorded a warm reception, great crowds meeting him. A Good Field. The Markets. New Zealand wjieat, 3s ; maize, per 6olbs, 3s; candles, D.R.J.'s, per lb, Adelaide, April 8. Wheat, 4s : 4d to 4s 3d. But little business has been done during the week. Town flour, Lio 5s to Lxo 7s 6d ; country brands, L 9 xos. Freights to London —Steamer, 45s ; do sailing, 42s 6d.
