RESIDENT MAGISTRATE’S COURT.
ASHBURTON. —To-Day. (Before J. N. Wood, Esq., R.M.) Inebriacy. —Two " men charged- with drunkenness were fined Is. each. ' Vagrancy. —John Smith, an old oft’ender, was brought up on a charge of this character. The evidence, was conclusive, but accused pleaded so hard for “ just one more chance,” that he was dismissed on the understanding that he would leave the town and keep the pledge.
Wilful Destruction oe Property.— Israel Luke and John Smith were charged with wilful damage to a pane of glass at the Brighton Boarding-house.. The evidence showed that Luke alone was blameable, and Smith was therefore dismissed, the other prisoner being fined Is and costs of repairs of window 30s, or in default 14 days hard labor. Accused accepted the alternative.
