(Per Press Association .) Thick Weather. Wellington, To-day. The steamer Penguin, which left Picton at 2 o’clock this morning, has not yet arrived. The ordinary passage takes five hours. It is thought that thick weather in the Straits has detained the vessel. The Governor. The Governor returned from Ins Southern tour at 10.30 this morning. He Speaks on Tuesday. Mr Bracken, the Deputy Grand Master, American Order of Oddfellows, delivered a lecture last evening, his subject being “A night with Lover.” The Hon. Mr Dick occupied the chair. The lecture was in aid of the Wellington Working Men’s Club. Fire. Hokitika, To-day. Eastgato’s grocery and Lindemain’s engineers and smith’s shop, in Revell street, were burnt at 3 o’clock this morning. The insurances are—Eastgate, L 250 in the Now Zealand. Stack of Oats Burned. A stack of oats, containing 500 bags, was accidentally burned on Laing’s farm, at Castlerock ; uninsured. Discharged. William O’Brien, an elderly man, charged at the District Court with indecent assault on a girl, was discharged.
