ACCIDENT TO THE CHARLES EDWARD.

(By Telegraph.) ; . W ESTPORT, To-day. The Charles Edward, steamer* coming from' Greynidutli ,< struck a sunken rock of the Steeples and knocked a hole in her bottom. She steamed ahead, but the water rose in r the engine-room, and she anchored. 'There was an impenetrable fog at the time. (Vs,soon as the accident happened guns were fired. These were: heard at Westport, but nothing practical was done. The Grafton, from Greymouth, was .seen by the Charles Edward, and great endeavors made to attract her attention, but without avail. Information reached Westport of- the accident, and the Grafton, proceeded to her assistance, and after standing by her all night, towed the disabled vessel to Westport, arriving this morning. An enquiry will be held.
