Exhibition Awards. Melbourne, Feb. 9. The Defence of Sydney. Sydney, Feb. 9. The Government have announced that a sum of L 6,000 will be spent in completing the torpedo defence of Sydney harbor. Put Back. The barque J ohn Knox, which sailed from this port yesterday for Lyttelton, put back to-day for repairs, having met with a heavy sea, and suffered serious injury to her bulwarks. ParliamentarySydney, To-day. The Hon. John Watson, Colonial Treasurer, introduced the Financial Statement in the Legislative Assembly last night. He estimates the revenue for this year at L 5,440,000, and the expenditure at 115,232,000. No material changes are proposed in the estim»t«»if expenditure, except a reduction of one-third in the immigration vote. Mr. Watson announced that the railways of the colony are paying per cent, on the capital sunk in their construction. He disclaimed any intention on the part of the Government to raise a new loan in the London market at present, but states that a loan for L 600,000 might possibly be issued in the colony at an early date.
