(Per Reuter's Agency.) Death of Carlyle. London, Feb. 5. The death is announed to-day, after a lingering illness, of Thomas Carlyle, the eminent author, aged 80. Good News. News ,to hand from Ireland dunng the last few weeks shows that agarian outrages have now almost entirely ceased. This is attributed mainly to the prompt measures which have been taken by the Government for the suppression of disorder. The Threatened Ashantee Attack Further news from Sierra Leone confirms a telegram to hand yesterday, regarding the probability of an outbreak of war in the colony. It is now announced that the King of Ashantee demands that a refugee chief, who has placed himself under British protection should surrendered. Sir Samuel Rowe, Governor of Sierra Leone, Iras refused the demand, hence the threatened attack on the colony by Ashantees. The Coercion Bill Denounced. London, Peb. 7. Public meeting? have been held in London and in several provincial towns at which resolutions have been passed denouncing the Irish Coercion Bill now before Parliament. Caving In. In addition to the complete cessation of outrages in Ireland, there are now signs that Irish tenants are giving way to the landlords, and will resume payment of rent for their holdings. Our Ambassador. Berlin, Feb. 7. Mr. Goschen, the English Ambassador to the Porte is visiting this city while en route for Constantinople. He has had audiences of the Emperor and Prince Bismarck. A Settlement Probable.
