(Pet Reuter's Agency,) The Geelong Gold Cup. Melbourne, Jan. 28. The Geelong Cup was run to-day, and was won by Progress. Interest. Melbourne Banks have reduced their rate of interest on deposits to, 3 per cent. Exhibitors Awards. The following awards to exhibitors are announced to-day : —Firsts : Miss Annie Wilson, Dunedin, for specimen of English modern point lace; A. Moore and Co., Christchurch, for wheat, &c.; Royse, Stead and Co., Christchurch, for twelve . samples of cereals. Seconds : Dr. Hector, for geological maps ; Miss McTavish, Thames, for specimens of needle work from New Zealand flax; Marshall and Copeland, Dunedin, for malt and barley. Thirds: Board of Education, Napier, for school apparatus ; Professor Von Haast, for geological report; Miss Jessie Logan, Dunedin, for lace work; J. and E. Paul, Marlborough, for barley ; Thomas Surman and Co., Invercargill, for malt; J. Bycroft and Co., Auckland, for biscuits. Fourths : Walter Deverell, Invercargill, for specimens of survey drafting; W. W. J. Spreat, Wellington, for map of Otago; Miss M. F. A, Jones, Nelson, for point lace. Fifths : Gerard Muller, Hokftika, for map of Westland; Charles O’Neill, Wellington, for plan of Wellington ; V. Almao, Dunedin, for hats. Homeward Bound. Melbourne, To-day. The yacht Zephyr, seven tons, owned by Mr. Gibbs, of Dunedin, sailed for Port Chalmers on Wednesday last. The Markets. Sydney, Jan. 28. Kerosene, diamond, is. ; B}4d. ; maize, 3s. twist, is. 4d. The markets for brandy, rice, sugar, New Zealand breads tuffs’ and candles are unchanged. Adelaide, Jan. 28.
