MELANCHOLY ACCIDENT.

A Father Drowned While Attempting to Rescue his Son. (By Telegraph.) Nelson, To day. Mr, H. Buckeridge, J.P. (of the firm of E. Buxton arid Co., merchants) was drowned at Moutcre yesterday morn ing. The deceased, together with his wife and family, had been staying out of town, and went boating. On their return, all had landed but deceased’s eldest son, when the dingy broke loose, and the strong wind drove her out to sea. Mr. Buckeridge, seeing his son’s danger, sprang in to smim to the dingy, but was unable to overtake it, and, his strength failing him, he sank and was drowned, his body being recovered two hours later. A message arrived at Nelson, and the steam launch went in search of the dingy, which, along with young Buckeridge, was brought in safely this morning.. The melancholy circumstance took place in sight of Mrs. Buckeridge and her family.
