(Pit- Renter's Agency.) Death. London, Dec. 27. Obituary—John Joseph Mechi, ex alderman for London, aged 78. Deceased was best known as the inventor of the razor strop bearing his name. Exaggerated. Dec. 28. The latest reports to hand from the Cape go to prove that the disaster to the 94th regiment in the Transvaal has been greatly overstated. The casualties were only thirty, the remainder being disarmed and afterwards released. Elected ChairmanMr. Parnell has been elected chairman of the Home Rulers in Ireland. The Demands of Greece. Further diplomatic communications have been received, wherein it is stated that Greece insists upon the adoption
of the frontier line as laid down at Berlin. Weary of His Honors. Beune. Dec. 27. The President of the Swiss Confederation, who had but quite recently been elected to the position, committed suicide to-day in a street in this city.
