DESTRUCTIVE FIRE IN WELLINGTON.
(by telegraph.) Wellington, To-day. A fire broke out in an unoccupied cottage in Fraser’s lane at 1.30 this morning. Tire building was soon burned to the ground, and the flames rapidly spread to a five-roomed cottage, occupied by Mr. A, Cutter, and owned by J. Gascoigne, which was also destroyed. An attached house, occupied by Mrs. Delacy, was partly burnt. The unoccupied house was owned by Mr. Thompson, boardinghouse-keeper, and was insured in the Union for LIOO, but Mr. Gascoigne is insured for Ll5O in the New Zealand Insurance Company. Mr. Cutter is a heavy looser, as his furniture was entirely uninsured. The origin of the fire is at present unknown.
