( Broken Down. —-A telegram from Auckland states that Sinking Fund, during a gallop with Lonehand yesterday, broke down badly, and it is. thought he will not be able again to undergo projmfa*' tion. ; :i : ■ An Octopus in a Bathing Plage.— Bathing at Dunedin seems to be attended with its perils, if we may judge front the following paragraph in the Dunedin Star, : —Bathers at the Pelichet Bay baths had better keep a sharp look out, for we are informed by several regular visitors there that for the last three or four days an | octopus has taken up his quarters inside the bathing space, It can be seen oc-. casionally swimming about near the Siyv face, and on one occasion-a man attacked'’ it with a boat hook, but did not succeed in killing it.
