Wife Desertion. A man named (jleeson, from the Hinds, was to-day re<mauded for eight days by the Bench, on a charge of wife desertion. What a beautiful thing is a rosy cheek ! Council for the prisoner—- “ Did you see the prisoner at the bar knock down the deceased 1 ” Pat —“ No, yor honer : he was alive when I see him knocked down.” Magnifcent Bequests. —The estate of William Birks Rhodes, the Hounslow 'raiser, who died a couple of years ago, has just been wound up, and has realised a sum of no less than seventy-eight thoupounds. Unlike a very large number of misers, the Hounslow miser seems to have had a very distinct and what may be called a very noble purpose in his economies, for if ho had denied himself to such an extent thathis whole household effectsonly fetched L 5 175., it was not from mere desire of gold, but for the purpose of benefitting others. He bequeathed the whole of his fortune in equal parts to the Lifeboat Institution and' the Royal Hospital in Gray’s liin Road, London.
