(Per Press Asoociation.) Gaining Ground. Gisborne, To-day. Mr. William Clark, who floated the South Pacific Petroleum Oil Company, is at present negotiating with the natives of the East Coast, and has succeded in obtaining the consent and signatures of a large number of the native owners to a deed of conveyance of a portion of the Rotokautuku Block to him for oil boring purposes.
Likely to be Floated. The Loclmagar has been moved 200 feet seaward, and if the tide and wind continue favorable, she will soon be floated.
Giving Drink to a Drunk Boy. Dunedin, To-day. At the City Court, the Bench dismissed the information against James Muir, publican, Caversham, who was charged with supplying liquor to a boy who was intoxicated. It is said the evidence was flat perjury on both sides. Prize Brewers, Speight Bros., brewers, Dunedin, to-day received a telegram from Melbourne, stating they had taken first and second prize for strong ales. The City Time Keeper. The city clock and bells were formally started by the Mayor at noon to-day. West Coast Coal. The gas engineer has reported strongly in favor of Westport and Grey coal for gas making purposes.
