So far, the week has been frittered away in making the smallest possible progress with the Native Lands and Lands Courts Bills ; and Sir George Grey teaching the Maoris the art of stonewalling till three o’clock in the morning. The Public Works Statement is again postponed until Friday evening. Mr. Saunders’ question re the paternity of the Shag railway wagons, after being put off by Mr. Oliver for a week, was this afternoon answered by a pretence of laying a paper on the table, and a statement that the preponderance of evidence pointed to their having been built in the Government workshops at Dunedin, under the eye of the Government officials-in that wonderful establishment.
