GOVERNMENT LAND SALE.

On Monday last, the Colonial Treaaccording to announcement in the « Government Gazette," offered for Sale Town, Suburban, and Country Lands. The Land Claimannts, or their agents were the only purchasers, except a few persons who purchased scrip ffomJhem. The competition, in consequence of the small quantity of Jand offered for sale, was very great as some of the Town land r ealised £165 per acre; some of the Suburban land realised £2O per acre ; and the Country lands as much as £6 per acre! These prices may seem high to people residing in the neighbouring colonies, but considering the circumstances under which the land was sold it is by far the cheapest that has ever been sold in Auckland. The total amount of the sum realised, (if the land had been sold for cash) would have been about £28,000 1
