We be® 1 to direct the attention of O . our readers to our Council reports respecting Dr. Martin’s motion for enquiring into the working of the present system of Post Office communication, charges, &c. The remit of that enquiry goes entirely to prove that a ton deferable annual loss accrues to that department, in consequence of the abominable tax on NewspapersThe government at home are positively taxing ''ts«emseLves to a targe amount for no earth \ purpose but to prevent the diffusion of knowledge, and depd' e the coloni-ts of the tittle-comfort they enjoy at this great distance, cf reading the news of their native country. We are sorry it is not in the power of the local government to abolish'this oppressive tax at once ; it must first receive the approbation of the home government, and another year will probably elapse before the abomination is removed.
