LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL.
THURSDAY, July llth, 1844. The Council met puisuant to adjournment. Present all (he members. The minutes of the last meeting were read and confirmed. The Colonial Treasurer moved the Order (of the day for the third reading of the “ Union Bank Bill.” The Biil was read a third time and passed. On tile Order of the day being moved for the third reading of the Cattle Trespass Amendment Bill,’’ the Govern >r dirrcied that the petition presented by Mr. Ch i i d be again read for the information of the C- >, r. The petition was read, and the Governor ”> i, moved the Order of the day lor the th-rd r a. 5 ii' of the “Cattle Trespass Amendment Bill.” The Bill was read a third time and passed. The Colonial Secretary moved the Order of the day for the third reading of the ‘‘Distillation Repeal Bill,” Preamble and clause 1 was read agreed to. Ttie Attorney General moved that the clause of which lie bad given notice be insetted. On the question being put that clause as proposed be agreed to, the Council divided. Ayes 4 Nres 3.—C-nried in the affirmative Clauses 2 and 3 read and agreed to* The Bill was read a third time and passed. The Colonial Secretary moved the Order of the day for the first reading of the “ Dog Nuisance Bill.” The Bill was read a first time accordingly, Mr. Gliffoid gqve notice that on the second re a.dug ot the said Bill he would move that the foil wing words be inserted after the word “ withs out,” in th?..fifth line, viz., “u collar with the name of the owner legibly engraved thereon.” The Governor gave notice that on the second reading .of the said Biil lie would move tha’ ii le word “temporarily” be inserted in 7th clause. On motion of the Governor it was ordered tha said Bill be read a second time on Saturday, 13t instant. The Attorney General moved the Order of the day for the second reading of the “ Native Exemption Bill, The Preamble was read and agreed to. On clause 1 being read the Attorney Genera’ moved that the words “ the Chiefs,” in 17th line be erased, and tire words “two principal Chiefs of the Tribe,” be inserted in lieu thereof. Clause as amended read and agreed to. Clause 2 as amended by the Attorney General was read and agreed to. Clauses 3,4, and 5. was read and agreed to. On danse 6 being read the Governor moved that the clause he amended by inserting the words “tape or,” in the 23rd line after the word “crimes.” C'aise as amended was lead and agreed to. Clauses 7,8, 9, 10, 11, and J2, were read and agreed to. On clause 13 being read the Governor moved that clause be erased, which was agreed to. The Schedule was read and agreed to. On the motion of the Governor, it was ordered that the said Bill be engrossed and read a third time on Tuesday, the 16th instant. The Attorney General moved the Order of the day for the second reading of the “ German Natnralizaiion Bill, The Bill was read a second time accordingly. On the motion of the Governor, it was ordered that the Bill be engrossed and read a third time on Tuesday, the 16th instant. The Govnrnor laid on the table the following Bills,— b 1. Land Claimants Estate Bill* 2, Licensing Amendment Bill, Ordered —that said Bills be read a first, time on Saturday, the 13th instant. The Council adjourned to Saturday, July i3th.
