“ENGLISHMAN” OFFICE. Friday, 10 sth Jan*, 1844, Important intelligence has just reached us froufr head quarters, which we. hasten to lay before our readers. A serious engagement has takan place between the British Troops and the Gwalior forts, in which the latter has been routed, and a considerable quantity of artillery, amunition and stores captured. The loss on our side has been very heavy; among others we regret to find the name of Major Sanders, the Military Secretary to. the GovernorGeneral. The action was sharply contested, as any-in which our forces have for a long period been engaged,*and the loss on on both sides is estimated at a very high amount. We shall in a supplemental extra give a list of the casualties, with all the detailed particulars for which we do not delay the present issue, on account of the importance of the news.
