We have been informed that His Excellency the Governor has given compensation for losses, &c., sustained by one of the oldest and most respectable settlers, in New Zealand. We are glad of this tor many reasons, among others we know that the gentleman alluded to possesses great influence over the natives, and the old settlers of New Zealand. We also know he possesses much power with the natives of the Fegee Islands, and that a very large tract of beautiful land has been presented to him by the Fegeeans in order to induce him to
take up his lesideuce among them. \\ e hope, however, as justice has been uoue him here it may be the means of inducing him to alter his mind and remain in this fine country where he, with many others, paved the way for the present residents of New Zealand, and where it is to be hoped he may reap a portion of what he has sown.
