We have received, by the last mail, a Copy of the Ist Number of an Official Paper headed “ Colonization Circular ,” issued by the Colonial Land and Emigration Commissioners in London. The objects of this publication will best be conveyed to our Readers in the words of the Preliminary Notice which we will quote “Wiili the view of meeting the increasing ften»anit lor iiifoimation <>» questions aftectins the ir W-cSts of persons inlendiug to settle iu the British colonies. the Colonial Land and Emigration Commissioners have decided to issue in a convenient and inexpensive form, printed nonces on all matters connected with Colonization; They will thus l*e enabled to submit to the public,,with but little delay, all the authentic information which is received from the different colonies respecting the amount of land which may be ready for settlement, the opening out -of new districts, the extent of previous and sales, the demand '<>r lab ur,'a»d the rates of wages, with the prices of provisions, dwellit g«, tsc. “ Tit-se notices w'r.H appear In numbers »i«t at stated periods,'but Crum time to time as the Cmn= missioneis may deem the information in tln-ir possession of sufficient interest or importance to ties- rve publication. A second number will follow very shortly. By order of the Bnrfd, S. Walcott, Secretary. 9, Park Street, Westminster,
•13 h May, 184*. The number now before us contains a list of Government Emigrant Agents, in the United Kingdom: a list of Immigration Agents in North America arid Australia, and in the latter we are gratified to perceive the name of our worthy Immigration Agent, David Rough, Esq., whence we hope we may augar well for his prospects of confirmation in the appointment.
Information on the Sale of Land in the various Colonies : on the wages of labourers and the prices of provisions: on the population of the settlements, together with Emigration Returns.— From the substance of this very valuable compilation, in perusing it, we perceive that no data were in the hands of the Commissioners of Emigration, from which they could give the public the cost of the clearing land, and other details in New Zealand. The little work just published by the Agricultural and Horticultural Association here supplies that desideratum, and we would suggest to the society the propriety of forwarding some copies of it to those functionaries in London.
