Tuesday, March 9th. 1847. About 4 in the afternoon left new Plymouth with W. Carrington and the Native Bob to commence the survey at Hauranga where I arrived at dusk and found Mr. Brown Cutfield William King and young Auty encamped by the river getting the tent pitched we had tea there whilst the Natives were busy talking and disputing as to whether they should dispose of their land. Slept in a snug house at the Hauranga Pah. Richd. Brown and young Auty came up in the evening the former slept with me in the house.
