proximity to it by allowing it to become almost a freehold in the hands of a single holder whom ever that holder may be - In reference to Maihi and his sons offer, I may take some credit in having long laboured to induce the owners to make over a portion of this fine flat to the Govt. Maihi wants to reserve a small block of about 10 or 15 acres on the spot where I am at present living I have sketched in on the other side of the paper the piece which he offers - I cannot say the number of acres contained in the block, but shall be happy to ascertain for you if wished - In conclusion if land in the immediate neighbourhood of the Township be leased surely it is better that the Govt. become leasees than private individuals the success of the Napier plains experiment I think proves my position.
